TriCore Accelerates Validation and Testing with Cymetryc
The Challenge
TriCore Reference Laboratories faced two high-stakes, fast-paced projects:
1. Instrument Migration: A chemistry and immunochemistry system upgrade requiring implementation of the Roche cobas c503 and e801 modules. This involved full integration testing, data validation, and compliance documentation.
2. Test Menu Expansion: The Southern Clinical Lab in Las Cruces planned to expand from SARS-CoV-2 testing to a full menu—chemistry, immunochemistry, hematology, urinalysis, and coagulation. Before go-live, the lab needed to prove that analytical specifications were met, connected systems functioned properly, and test quality was preserved.
Despite the tight timelines, quality and compliance could not be compromised.
Traditionally, TriCore’s integration testing relied on manual processes—spreadsheets, emails, in-person reviews, and laborious documentation assembly. There was no centralized visibility into progress or collaboration.
“Although we have always done it this way, it became clear that we could not effectively impact our projects unless we made a change to our data validation process,”
— Dr. Veronica Luzzi, Section Chief & Medical Director, TriCore Reference Laboratories
The Strategy
To stay on track, TriCore needed a smarter validation approach that preserved rigor but reduced manual overhead. The teams developed a validation plan covering both dry and wet testing across hundreds of test cases.
“Validation testing was our Achilles heel—it can consume one-third of an entire project,” explains Dr. Luzzi. “We needed a methodology that streamlined execution without compromising the plan.”
Across the two projects, TriCore anticipated executing:
- 500+ test scripts for the Roche cobas integration
- 350+ test scripts for the Southern Clinical Lab test menu expansion
The Solution: Cymetryc
TriCore selected Cymetryc™, a purpose-built, cloud-based validation platform from Software Testing Solutions (STS).
“With help from STS, our test scripts were uploaded to Cymetryc. Onboarding was simple, even across varying skill sets. Most importantly, we were no longer constrained by outdated, manual processes.”
With Cymetryc, TriCore gained:
- Centralized collaboration and real-time visibility
- Elimination of paper documentation
- Accelerated test execution and approvals
- Streamlined compliance report generation
The Outcome
Cymetryc transformed TriCore’s approach to validation:
- Testing timelines were met, despite the project’s scope and pace.
- Teams could focus on testing, not documentation.
- Real-time status visibility enabled faster decisions and approvals.
- Regulatory evidence was automatically captured and organized.
“Now that we’re using a solution fit for purpose, we can focus our attention and time on actual testing and review,” says Dr. Luzzi.
Conclusion
TriCore’s experience shows what’s possible when laboratories modernize their validation strategy. By moving to Cymetryc, they turned a potential bottleneck into a competitive advantage—meeting timelines, boosting quality, and simplifying compliance.
